It's definitely NOT heaven

I spent time in Iowa on business. It's an awful, awful place. The only place I've ever been to that is as racist is Augusta, GA. Sitting in a sportsbar watching a game one night, the guy next to me OPENS the conversation with:

"We gotta made illegal immigration a capital crime. This ain't gonna stop until we kill those fuckers." This was pretty much the sentiment about minorities in the entire place. Black people are referred to as "unmotivated workers" as a code word in conversations. It's a conversation piece that Obama won the state by winning the two "unmotivated" cities.

The people that weren't racist were what I'll now call "subsidy queens". The entire state is based around subsidies, they all know it, and they all love it. They talk about it openly and laugh about it. They are way worse than the welfare queens so vilified in the media. These people suck so many more dollars out of the government.

Uh oh. This will put a huge crimp into the global warming industry.

I took a two-week break from poker and it felt good. Though I did play live while in Iowa, I spent more time playing with an NES emulator and trying to beat various old NES games rather than play poker in my free time.

re:sunspots

Well hey, that'll cool us down a little until we figure the carbon situation out. A godsend, I say.

I am aware - I read BA every day. I don't understand the mentality though. GW advocates lash out mightily at anyone presenting an opposing view, even in this case where they want to do more studies to determine what's going on. Anyone that threatens the golden goose must fail.

What harm can be done in their experiments and studies? Why treat real science, which is what the studies will be, like this just because the aim disagrees with you?

It's one of the two tenets of the GW side of things that undermine their side of the debate. The other is the hysterical hyperbole.

I certainly agree there is all too much knee-jerk shouting down of any study that doesn't agree with the party line.

However it doesn't sound to me like we can blame everything on the sun.
